If there is a delay in school opening, an early closing or a closing for the day, it will be posted under the "Announcements" Section on the district homepage in addition to all the other ways in which they are typically announced. 
The Superintendent is in touch with the transportation supervisor and maintenance supervisor to assess the road conditions in town, as well as other area Superintendents.
The State Police and Town of Killingly Highway Department are also consulted.  At that point the Superintendent will make a decision on the information provided to him on whether to delay or close school, and if the students are in school already, whether to do an early closing

In the event of stormy weather, school cancellations and delayed openings, they will be announced on the radio and TV by approximately 6:00 a.m.

In order to help you prepare for morning childcare and/or supervision, ALL DELAYED OPENINGS WILL BE NINETY (90) MINUTES.

Again, we will be utilizing our automated telephone calling system which will contact you if there is a delay,cancellation or early dismissal. If at any time your telephone number changes, please contact the school so that your correct number is on file.

In the event of a delay, a child’s bus transportation will be delayed by the same amount of time. For example, when school is delayed for 90 minutes, a student who is usually picked up at 7:30a.m. will be picked up at 9:00 a.m.


Delayed Opening hours are:

KHS- 9:04 a.m.         KIS-8:45 a.m.           KMS -10.00 a.m.             KCS - 9:50 a.m          
                         Goodyear Childcare -8:00a.m.                          BASP at KCS- 8:00 a.m.

*When there is a 90 minute delay, there is no morning special education preschool or morning kindergarten.

EXCEPTION:If the 90- minute delay is on an Early Release day, the scheduled kindergarten session and special education preschool will be held and will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Should a severe storm develop while school is in session and we feel it is in the interest of safety to dismiss students early, announcements will also be on radio and TV stations.

When there is an early dismissal because of weather, there is no afternoon Kindergarten and no afternoon special education program.

Early Dismissal hours are:

KHS-12:00 p.m.       KIS-12:10p.m.     KCS-1:10p.m   KMS-1:20 p.m.     Goodyear-11:10 a.m.

Parents of elementary and intermediate school students should make arrangements to receive students at home if there is an early dismissal. Either arrange to be home early for your child’s arrival, arrange for another adult to be at home or arrange for a relative or neighbor to provide supervision in their homes.  Please inform your child of any plans that you will make in the case of an early dismissal.  Principals and staff will not be able to call individual parents to confirm or arrange these plans.
