Kindergarten Music
Kindergarten students have music for 30 minutes once a week. We approach their first year as a year to try many things and develop the basic foundation they will need in years to come. During the year, students will explore the 3 basic concepts of music: High/Low, Fast/Slow and Steady Beat. We use many different ways to practice these concepts, which include movement, instrument and children's literature. We do not focus on performances and concerts, however, they may perform a song or dance for their teachers at the end of their music class. I call these "Informances" and will record them occasionally throughout the year and post them on this page. I look forward to meeting and working with your children.
Since the beginning of the year, the Kindergarteners and I have become many characters (ie. cats, mice, turkeys) to help learn to follow directions from a song. Through the end of November and all of December we will continue the character theme and act out other song-stories using the Who (characters), What (retelling), and When (setting) of song-stories to help re-enforce the concepts from their classrooms. We will also learn about simple christmas songs and carols, the Chanukah story and music, and other fun and educational winter steady beat games.
