No, you didn't see incorrectly...cheerleading is listed under the athletics tab because we believe cheerleading is as much a sport as everything else!!
We were very fortunate to have won both of our competitions we entered last year with our team. We took 1st place at the annual Plainfield Panthers Competition in Plainfield(click on the tab at the left to see our team competition as well as our individual stunt group competition), and also won the gold at the Miss Cherry Pie competition in Thompson! Our team worked very hard last year in order to achieve success and we hope to continue our reign as champions this year.
We will be holding tryouts in the coming months and would recommend the following to those boys and girls who are interested in trying out to become a Killingly Cougar Cheerleader:
* Get excercise daily, as cheerleading takes a lot of endurance and strength !
* Work on stretching those muscles!! It is very important to be flexible and be able to pull those legs up to do a toe touch
* Work on your gymnastic skills! At tryouts we will ask that the participants be able to do at least a forward roll...but more advanced skills are also allowed (cartwheels, handsprings, etc).
* Be ready to learn and work hard! We practice daily and have games twice a week as we cheer for both the boys and the girls basketball teams.
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to email either Coach Sylvestre or Coach Bessenaire.
We look forward to another great season!
